Porchlight Programs

Supportive ProgramsPhoto of Amy in the kitchen

Porchlight, Inc. exists not to just provide emergency shelter and low-cost housing to the homeless, but to help people build stable, independent lives by acquiring job skills and finding permanent employment. We operate several programs that help people with emergency shelter, transitional and permanent housing, job counseling and training, and low-cost transitional and permanent housing. These are available to families and individuals in each stage of their transition from homelessness and poverty to economic independence.

The The Skills Training and Barrier Limiting Education Program (STABLE) has an 8-bedroom single room occupancy facility, primarily for homeless women with mental health issues. A case manager provides case management for participants who are taught independent living and money management skills. Leases are month-to-month for up to two years. Photo

The Sobriety Training Orientation Program (STOP) provides housing in a five-bedroom single room occupancy facility with a sober, supportive living environment for men that have become homeless due to their addictions. Participants are asked to be self-motivated to achieve sober living skills. In addition, the addiction counselor provides both individual and group counseling in the homes weekly. STOP has been in operation since 1994 and has served 78 men, most of who have gone on to independent, permanent housing and employment.

The Sobriety Training After Recovery Treatment Program (START) provides 12 units of one-bedroom housing with a supportive sober living environment. Residents must have a minimum of nine to 12 months consistent recovery from addiction. Group therapy occurs every two weeks. Participants must be involved in service to the community.

The Housing Program provides low-cost transitional and permanent housing for homeless and low-income persons.

The Brooks Street SRO Program provides 84 units of housing with supportive services for single adults.

The Partnership for Transitional Opportunities (PTO) Program provides 18 units of housing with case management for homeless adults with a history of substance abuse.
